John 1:15

The Source Advent John 1-15

John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”

I love the soundtrack to this season! A quick burst of Wham or Cliff signals that it's a certain time of year! Meredith Willson wrote:

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”

and Michael Buble’s version is a great soundtrack for peeling those sprouts on Christmas Eve.

But it’s not here yet! This sums up the season of Advent which is an opportunity for us to recognise that we are an Advent people. There are lots of signs that Jesus is with us and that His Kingdom is coming, but its not completely here yet and so we’re waiting …

Waiting is difficult. Perhaps some presents are appearing under the tree but it’s not time to open them yet! This is a reminder that we all experience a deeper sense of waiting. Our sense of injustice, our pain of loss, or insignificance or not being heard reveals the fact that things aren’t yet as they should be.

Like John we want to cry out! Waiting for the Word, we yearn for what is to come.

Ours is an active waiting. And so our prayer this Advent is the same as it should be every day and can be summed up in one word:

‘Come’.

PROMPT: What are you waiting for? Listen to ‘Waiting For The Word’ by The Source Collective and take a moment to think about what comes to mind. There might be some things that you have been waiting a while for. Bring these things to God who is present with you in the waiting. What did it mean for the Word to become flesh?
