The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
Advent is all about the arrival of someone or something.
Think about a time when you were waiting for someone ... maybe you spent some time getting yourself ready? Maybe you had cleaned the house and cooked a meal ready for their arrival? And now as you wait you wonder whether they are going to arrive on time!? Suddenly the doorbell rings and you excitedly exclaim:
“They’re here!”
Everything we see happening since the early chapters of Genesis is now about to be realised in the person of Jesus, God’s ultimate Word. Whilst we might want to escape from our ordinary, everyday existence on earth, John is at great pains to point out that Jesus is coming into the world to inhabit real time and actual physical space, to make it His home and in doing so make Himself present among people who will be able to announce:
“He’s here!”
PROMPT: Amongst all the busyness and preparation of the Christmas season take a moment today to be present. Firstly, be present to Jesus, reminding yourself that this season is all about anticipating His arrival.
Also, think about how you can be present to those you are with today (who might also be stressing over the Christmas countdown!). Rather than adding to their burden, how can you practically lighten their load today?
